At that point, the expiration date is irrelevant, as now the product will begin to harbor further bacteria, requiring early disposal. It is best to apply the formula directly onto a fresh Q-tip, cotton pad, clean sponge or similar and use that to directly contact skin. The possibility for contamination is even greater when applied directly onto ones fingertip, leading to further irritation or breakouts. However, the only exception to fingertip application is when a product is in the form of a pump dispenser. By pumpimg out the desired amount to “drop” onto your fingertip, contamination can be prevented as long as the finger does not touch the tip of the dispenser.
For product effectiveness, always be sure to use the proper amount; too much can cause irritation and too little will serve no purpose. Follow the recommended dosage and apply sparingly in facial segments, blending until fully absorbed. Do not repeat over the area. Also, when using multiple products, allow 3 – 5 minutes between application in the following order: topical medication is applied first, followed by daily skin treatment, moisturizer and sunscreen, finishing with your makeup last, if desired.
Unless specifically instructed otherwise, TheBeautyPlace.com recommends if the contents are in a liquid format, shake well before use. As for pressed powders or similar formulas requiring the use of a brush or likewise, be sure to wash the brush with mild shampoo every 3 – 4 days and lay flat to dry on a clean surface. Also, replace any disposable sponges within the same time frame. If sponges or pads are used frequently before you are ready to replace them, wiping the surface of pressed powders after each use helps decrease the chance for bacteria to linger within the compact’s contents. This suggestion is also useful for cosmetics, when using foundation, blush or other types of makeup that are pressed and enclosed in a compact case.
